World Golf Ranking #3 Rory McIlroy enjoyed a $2 million pay day after defeating American Anthony Kim in a play-off at the Shanghai Masters on Lake Malaren's Jack Nicklaus-designed Masters course.

Kim missed a three foot putt to lose the play-off to McIlroy after both players finished on 18 under par. Kim, collected $750,00 for runner-up position.

McIlroy's victory does not improve his world ranking position or boost his Ryder Cup points because the golf tournament did not have official tour status.

It was the Irish Golfer's fourth victory as a professional and his second of the year following his eight-shot triumph at the 2011 US Open in June.

American Hunter Mahan and the Korean youngster Noh Seung-Yul finished tied third, each on 13 under par.

World golf ranking number two Lee Westwood recorded a hole in one on the par 3 12th hole and claimed fifth spot on 12 under par with fellow countryman Ian Poulter sealing sixth place a further shot behind.

Retief Goosen (68) and K.J. Choi (67) were another stroke back and Y.E. Yang (72), Padraig Harrington (72) and John Daly (71) were 6 under.

The top players, are staying in Shanghai for another week to take part in the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions at Sheshan International.
